Purple, pink, and polka dots light this rainy road
Once wearied under a deep cover of snow
Only to be flushed and filled with a rainbow
That the cardinal held under his coat
He was our only ark, afloat

But from under his wings we came out in twos
(I’m glad to have ended up next to you)
To a warm breeze cutting through the cold
That turned this world into a child who’s rolled
Down the hill in the yard, in her purple green boots
And tracked mud through your house to say she loves you
